The useful starting point
Choose activewear for the movement you intend to do, then check the exact size chart, waistband or support construction, pocket placement and care instructions. Treat opacity, comfort and performance descriptions as claims to verify, and avoid assuming every stretchy garment suits every activity.
Define the activity and the features you need
Write down the main use: everyday walking, a gym session, a studio class or casual wear. List three practical requirements. For leggings these might be a particular inseam, a secure pocket and a preferred rise. For a sports top they might be sleeve coverage, a neckline you like and compatibility with the layers you use.
Use this list to remove irrelevant options. A pocketed flare legging and a fitted training legging serve different preferences; a higher advertised discount does not make either the right choice for your routine.
Read construction details, not just performance words
Record the stated composition, available lengths, waistband design, seams, closures and lining. If a listing says moisture-wicking, compression or squat-proof, look for a clear explanation or documented testing from the maker. Mark an unsupported description as unverified; do not turn it into a SimplyFound test result.
For sports bras, confirm the brand’s intended activity level, its actual band and cup sizing method, and whether pads and straps are removable or adjustable. A generic S/M/L label cannot resolve all fit questions. Ask the retailer how the specific model should fit rather than transferring another brand’s sizing.
Use a movement and care checklist
| Before ordering | When trying the item within return conditions |
|---|---|
| Compare waist, hip, rise and length with the exact chart | Check comfort while sitting and moving normally |
| Confirm pocket dimensions and placement | Check whether your intended small items fit comfortably |
| Read seams, closures and adjustment details | Check rubbing, digging, gaping or slipping |
| Read washing and drying instructions | Decide whether that care fits your routine |
Check fabric coverage in your own lighting; a seller’s photograph is not a substitute. Follow product instructions and stop using an item if it causes discomfort. The worksheet evaluates a purchase, not an exercise program.
Avoid expensive fit experiments
Check whether the selected activewear or intimate garment has return exclusions before ordering. If you have not worn a brand before, resolve chart ambiguities instead of purchasing several uncertain sizes with assumed free returns.
Use the general clothing checklist to compare final checkout cost and care. Save alternatives in a basket, then choose the one with the clearest evidence for your requirements. No current product here is awarded a performance rating from personal testing.
