The useful starting point
Choose an essential for the child’s current stage and the manufacturer’s stated use. Check the specific age, weight or size guidance, readable instructions, included pieces and cleaning requirements. A bundle discount or a ‘baby’ label does not establish that every component is appropriate for your child.
Identify the product and the intended use
Separate footwear, diapering supplies, play products and oral-care items before comparing them. They require different checks. A play mat’s dimensions say where it fits, while the manufacturer’s age and use instructions say whom it is designed for. A toy or play gym should not be repurposed as sleep equipment: the CPSC’s sleep-space guidance advises using products designed to be safe for infant sleep.
For a bundle, copy every included item, quantity and size. Compare the actual diaper variant and manufacturer weight range, not only an XL label or the child’s age. For footwear, use the brand’s foot-measurement method and check the closure and intended use.
Read age guidance and verify specific claims
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s toy guidance advises following age and safety information on packaging and keeping toys with small parts away from children under three. This is a cited safety resource, not a statement of Indian law or certification of any product in our catalogue.
Where a seller claims a BIS mark, the BIS Care app provides Verify Licence Details. Ask for the specific licence information and check it through the official tool. A generic ‘certified’ graphic is not evidence that SimplyFound verified the delivered item. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and appropriate supervision requirements.
Use a different check for each kind of essential
| Product type | Details to obtain before buying |
|---|---|
| Play mat or gym | Intended age/use, dimensions, assembly, warnings and cleaning |
| Shoes or sandals | Foot-size chart, fastening, sole description and returns |
| Diapers and wipes | Exact size/weight guidance, count, ingredients where relevant and sealed-pack terms |
| Toothpaste or oral care | Age guidance, complete label and directions; resolve suitability with a dental professional |
Keep unknowns visible. Do not use a price-per-piece comparison to decide whether an oral-care product or another personal-care item is suitable. That is a separate decision from pack value.
Check delivery, condition and repeat-purchase value
Inspect the delivered item’s label, model, condition and instructions before use. Follow assembly and maintenance directions rather than improvising missing parts. Resolve discrepancies with the retailer. Check return exclusions for hygiene and opened products before ordering a large quantity.
Buy a manageable amount of a new consumable rather than assuming it will suit the child indefinitely. Keep a note of the exact model and size that worked, and revisit it as needs change. The kids’ clothing guide gives a separate worksheet for everyday outfits.
