The useful starting point
Check the kurta and bottom measurements separately, confirm the actual pieces included, and read composition, lining and care instructions for each piece. For an occasion, choose around your delivery and alteration deadline rather than relying on the word ‘set’ or the styled photograph.
Confirm the contents of the set
Copy the listing’s included-items description into your shortlist. Does the purchase include a kurta and trousers, or a kurta, trousers and dupatta? Are the photographed jewellery, belt or other accessories sold separately? Check whether the bottom is stitched and whether the waist has elastic, a drawstring, a zip or a fixed band.
If the title and description disagree, ask the seller to confirm the exact SKU. Do not infer a dupatta’s inclusion from the model’s outfit. A cheaper two-piece option may suit you, but compare like-for-like contents before deciding that it is better value.
Check the fit of every piece
| Piece | Measurements or details to check |
|---|---|
| Kurta | Chart basis, bust, hip, shoulder, sleeve and total length |
| Bottom | Waist method, hip, rise, inseam or total length |
| Dupatta, if included | Length, width and edge details |
| Lining | Which pieces have it and the stated material |
Follow the brand’s measurement method and compare a similar comfortable outfit. For example, a kurta can match your bust requirement while the accompanying fixed-waist trousers do not fit. Confirm whether the seller can supply different component sizes; do not assume it can.
Choose fabric and care for the occasion
Write down where and how often you plan to wear the set. Ask about full fibre composition, lining and any embroidery or embellishment care. A fabric name alone does not establish comfort, opacity or durability for a particular item.
For repeated office wear, consider the care work you are prepared to do after each use. For an event, check whether you already have suitable footwear and layers. Put those extra needs on the same shopping list rather than discovering them after the set arrives.
Work backwards from the date you need it
Record the retailer’s delivery estimate for your postcode, your event date, and time for inspecting the outfit or arranging permitted alterations. Check whether discounted or occasion items have different return rules. Keep the order description and checkout terms.
Inspect all pieces on arrival, including seams, fastenings and consistency with the listed contents. Resolve an incorrect or damaged delivery through the retailer before removing tags or altering anything. Read the clothing returns checklist and the workwear capsule worksheet for the next decision.
